Scene 1: Slater House (kitchen)
|
It's the next morning after Sean's bust up in the pub with the workman Stacey was flirting with the night
before. Sean is making himself a hot drink, while Stacey is wrapping a present at the kitchen table. Stacey
asks Sean if he is going to sign their mum's birthday card or not. Sean replies: |
"I don't do birthdays"
| I think once again Sean is trying to detach himself from any emotional contact with his family by distancing
himself from any kind of gesture that one gives to show their love for a person. It's also obvious he is reluctant
to sign the card because it's for Jean. Stacey says that a nice bit of violence is more Sean's style. Sean tells Stacey
that the bloke was a piece of scum and she should be thanking him. Stacey says what if he comes after you, which Sean dismisses
saying no chance as he's a brickie. Stacey asks if it made him feel good and he says it did as nobody disrespects his little sister.
Sean leaves the kitchen just as Stacey's mobile rings. Max is calling her but she ignores the call. |

Scene 2: Slater House (hallway)
|
Sean is walking towards the door to answer it has someone is ringing the bell. It's Max, who wants to see Stacey after she had been ignoring
his calls. He comes up with the excuse that he is there to ask Stacey if she can babysit for him and Tanya. Sean replies in a joking manner:
"I don't know, you hear all these stories don't ya? dirty old men, teenage babysitters"
This line comes off as very funny seeing as Max and Stacey are indeed having an affair, which Sean doesn't know! |
| Stacey comes to the door, a bit freaked at what Sean said and pushes him to go away. She then apologises to Max, jokily saying Sean
hasn't taken his tablets. Sean says well whatever and says he's going back to bed as last night took it out of him.
This comment comes off as a bit strange to me as we see Sean fully dressed, yet he decides to go back to bed? I think this scene would have made
more sense if Sean was still in his nightclothes. This comment also tells us that Sean is taking life easy at the moment and he obviously doesn't have
a job. Sean leaves Max and Stacey talking and goes upstairs. Stacey asks what Max is playing at coming around as it's too risky and he saw what Sean did to that
poor bloke in the pub last night. Max tells Stacey that Sean is just a kid and he can look after himself.
Stacey tells Max to go and that she will call him. |
|
Scene 3: Market
|
Stacey sees Bradley and starts talking to him. He comments that she hadn't opened up her stall and she says it's because it's her mum's birthday and she is going to
see her. Bradley tells Stacey to wish her a happy birthday and leaves. Sean walks by Bradley purposely knocking into him as he approaches Stacey. It's obvious Sean is
showing his superiority here over Bradley and making sure Bradley knows he isn't in his good books still. |
| Sean pleads to Stacey not to give him another lecture.
Stacey is still trying to get Sean to sign Jeans birthday card and he once again resists saying that he doesn't 'do' birthdays. Fed up with Stacey's nagging he snatches
the pen and signs the card with an 'x' in spite. He then sarcasticly says he hopes she has a lovely day and walks off. Bradley sees Stacey is upset and decides to give a bunch of
flowers intended for Lydia to Stacey, to give to Jean.
